Minutes of Graduate / Undergraduate

15 February 2002

Mississippi Fijis Inc. (The House Corporation)  held a retreat with the undergraduate cabinet and key committee members at Todd Campbell's house in New Albany, MS.

Roll

Members present were James Brooks, Todd Campbell, Robert Cook, Mike Dietrich, Briar Jones, F.C. Lee, Stephen Palmer, and Paul Welborn.  Members excused were Jay Richardson, and Sean Sullivan.  Lee Beck and Dr. William Parrish were also present.

The undergraduate Sigma Mu chapter of Phi Gamma Delta was represented by Tommy Halstead, Justin Arras, Wesley Jackson, Jay Monroe, Craig Chapman, Kirk Donahoe, and Brad Paczak.

Wesley Jackson, undergraduate treasurer, reported that accounts receivable were high.  The cabinet was thinking of instituting a tiered punishment plan for non-payment of dues.  They are also considering a debt collection agency.  Expect a plan from the undergraduates in three weeks.

A suggestion was made that keys to rooms be issued when rent is paid and that room alterations be approved by Mississippi Fijis, Inc.

Michael Page has stated that he can get Shaw carpet for the entire upstairs for around $500.00.  This does not include installation.

It was suggested that an arbitration clause be added to the lease.

The undergraduates requested that they be able to use the nice room as a study hall with computers, library tables, chairs, etc.  It was noted that this room has traditionally been the domain of the Mary Mccarthy Club.  The house corp. expressed strong concerns that the room be keep nice.

Tommy Halstead, undergraduate house chairman stated the following items need attention:

1. Roof Leak

2. Plumbing still leaks in the Chapter Room.

He was told to get three estimates.

Discussion on the kitchen.  Everyone needs to order meals. Should the kitchen be run by the meal steward or the house mother?

Fundraising

More graduates need to be involved financially.

Target marketing.

Try and get graduates to come by the house for Pig Dinner and football games.

Guest book

Can we go out and find the graduates?

Summer internships, jobs and contacts

Need to think about the tax status of the organization.  This is a major hurdle for recruiting big donors.  Think about doing something with scholarships.  Scholarships for people who live in the house and maintain high grades.
